One More Surprise

Just as the burned skin on Corinne’s neck was healing and peeling, she noticed redness, swelling and streaking around the opening of her Groshong catheter. The doc on call that night told her to get to the clinic the next day. It was infected.

 

 
 

Things moved fast when we got there. An intravenous antibiotic was immediately given. And the administrative folks got on the phone to schedule the removal of the Groshong right away. We were sent nearly directly to the surgeon.

In the surgeon’s waiting room, Corinne was nervous about the minor operation, even if it was only to be an office procedure. She was unsettled about the fact that future intravenous work would mean always getting stung with a needle.
