Corinne
loves animals more than she loves people.
And they know it. They approach her. They
let her touch them. They know they are
safe with her. Corinne generally refers
to most animals and insects as "she."
Like
the other women in my life have done,
Corinne takes great efforts to nurture
our animal visitors. She feeds stray dogs
and wild birds in winter. She "escorts"
flies out the door. She shares space with
a host of spiders who inhabit her plants.
I
have seen Corinne at the point of tears when
we pass an animal that has been killed on the
road. When she considers the possibility of
her death, her animals are the first priority.
